Uniform

When buying uniform for the start of a new academic year, from countries outside of the UK, we would advise you to purchase all items, either in store or online, by the first week of August at the latest. This is to ensure all sizing and uniform requirements are met and to allow plenty of time for all items to be name taped (if this service is required) during the busy summer period.

 Your purchasing options are:

 1)      In store

If it is possible, we would strongly advise you to visit one of our shops (please see your school’s page here for the appropriate store) before the first week of August, where our experienced staff will be able to guide you through the uniform requirements and fit, and would of course allow for growth when advising on sizing.

If your child is starting at Eton or Harrow and you would like to make an appointment, please complete the new boy registration form which can be found on the Eton or Harrow pages of our website and we will contact you to discuss the specific requirements of these schools.

Please note that our strict deadlines for marking uniform do not apply to these schools.

For all other schools, it is possible to make appointments for your child’s ‘kit out’ until the end of July, at all of our shops. After this point we do not offer appointments due to the volume of customers, but you are free to visit our stores at any time and our staff will be available to guide you through your school’s requirements.

2)      Online

It is also possible to purchase all uniform items via our website, which can then be delivered to any nominated address. Please navigate to your chosen school’s page here.

Whilst we advise you to ideally visit one of our stores, if this is not possible then we can provide comprehensive advice via email or phone, prior to you purchasing items online.

If requesting uniform advice via email, please specify which year group your child will be joining at their chosen school, so that we are better able to advise you on the school requirements.

Sizing advice

Prior to purchasing any clothing via our website, we would strongly suggest that you measure your child as per the instructions provide on our website here.

As a general guide all blazers, pullovers, cardigans and girls blouses are sized in chest measurements in inches; boys shirts sizes are collar measurements in inches. All skirts and trousers are sized in waist measurements in inches, with the secondary measurement being the length of skirt or trouser inner leg, respectively. Dresses, pinafores and tunics are sized in chest measurements in inches, with the secondary measurement being the dress length in inches.

There is also specific sizing advice provided on most of our product pages, which should help guide you in your purchases.

If you require any further guidance on sizing then please contact the store that holds your uniform (details to be found on your school’s page), specifying the items you require guidance on and your child’s measurements, so that we are able to swiftly advise you on the most suitable size.

Name Tapes

It is a requirement of all of our schools that your child’s name is clearly marked on all garments. For boarding schools sewn-in name tapes (as opposed to iron-on) are compulsory.

At Billings & Edmonds we are able to supply high quality name tapes and if required sew them in (referred to as ‘marking’) to all B&E purchased items. We work closely with all our schools and understand their specific requirements for marking.

We strongly recommend that all garments are tried on prior to marking, as we do charge for unpicking name tapes and if the garment is damaged during the unpicking process, we are not able to exchange it.

The name tape packs are available to buy on our website and instore. Each pack will contain a voucher code that can then be used to order your required name tapes online or via post with The National Weaving Company.

For items that you require us to mark in time for the September ‘back to school’ period, we would advise you to order name tapes as soon as possible and certainly no later than the first week of July.

If we are marking your items, we are able to order name tapes on your behalf and have them delivered to one of our high streets stores (Eton, Chiswick or Harrow) ready for your appointment/attendance at the store.

If you would like us to do so, then please complete the order form here

In this instance, if your child’s school has specific requirements regarding the colour/font of name tapes, we will amend your order in line with these requirements prior to placing with The National Weaving Company.

If your daughter will be attending the Royal High School, Bath, please contact the store directly at bath@billingsandedmonds.co.uk or +44 1225 427163 for their marking service.

Delivery

We now offer an international delivery service by courier.

All courier services include tracking and full insurance.

FAQs

What happens to my unused name tapes?

Once all items have been marked, any unused name tapes can either, be held in store, posted to your home address or sent to the school matron, for future use.

Can I exchange my items?

Yes, as long as garments are in a saleable, unworn condition, with tags attached, we are happy to exchange for a different size. Please ensure you bring your receipt with you when exchanging items.

Can I exchange marked items?

Yes it is possible to exchange garments that have had name tapes sewn in, however we do charge for unpicking and if the garment is damaged during the process we are not able to exchange the item.

We would strongly recommend that you do not have any items marked until they have been tried on for size.

Can orders be delivered to the school?

Yes, we are able to deliver you order to any nominated address. However when requesting delivery to school outside of term times, please contact your school to ensure there will be someone available to accept the order.

Can the school mark my items?

Please contact your school for details of their individual marking policies.

Can you mark any garments not purchased at Billings & Edmonds?

We are able to mark garments purchased elsewhere, but this service will cost more than for B&E purchased items.

Can you mark items for my child going forward?

Yes we are able to retain your child’s name tapes in store for this purpose. You (or the matron at your child’s school) could then contact us at a later date to request further marking services.

How long does it take to mark a full kit out?

During the busy summer period, we would allow 2-3 weeks for a full kit out to be marked, from the point at which the name tapes are available. Please note that during the summer, name tapes can also take up to 2 weeks to be produced.

Can I use name tapes I already have?

Yes, as long as they match the requirements of your new school you will be able to use existing name tapes.

Please note that in the case of Eton College and Harrow School, the boy’s laundry number must be included on name tapes, so you will be unable to use existing name tapes that do not include this information.

Is my child allowed a tuck box?

Please contact your school for details of their individual policies regarding tuck boxes.
